Cousin Dupree
Cousin Dupree's JournalMy alter ego, the Masked Menace, came out at the grocery store today.
About 50% masked, 50% unmasked. I hadnt been to the grocery store in weeks due to a foot injury. I was shocked, for some reason. (Guess I expect sensible behavior).
So this man probably in his 70s is on the other side of the tomato display, no mask, and his wife is standing further away but can hear me. I said to him, You should be wearing a mask. He said, Why? And Im trying to think of a quick answer that would maybe get him to think. So I said, To protect the children. I could see that they didnt know what to say from the looks on their unmasked faces. Is there any chance I made a dent?
The American people are paying millions and millions of dollars to settle lawsuits against police
Malpractice insurance is part of the answer to fixing police misconduct. Each and every policeperson should be required to buy their own personal malpractice insurance, just like doctors and nurses do. Its another mechanism for holding them responsible for their behavior. Why should we be paying victims and families on behalf of police?
A nurse's perspective on the Windsor Mill shooting
Both nurses and police hold the lives of people in their hands. The margin for error is VERY SLIM. When we make mistakes, people die. Yet police are making errors in frightening numbers. How many mistakes is it going to take before things change? It appears to me that nurses are very conscientious about preparing themselves to avoid mistakes, but Im not sure that police make the same efforts.
If the police womans story of grabbing the wrong device is true (which I doubt), then this is a indictment of police training and judgement, and police candidate selection.
I did my civic duty today.
Reported a DC rioter to one of my countys boards. Because the rioter is on their board of directors! The woman I spoke to seemed genuinely surprised and then I could hear the smile in her voice as she talked to me. I got the feeling I made her day. It sure made mine.
Any predictions about the Emily Murphy fiasco?
So medical personnel haven't given enough?? Now in North Dakota they are being asked
to work if they test positive for Covid. IM FURIOUS. The Governor and hospital administrators know that medical people will not leave patients without care. So they take advantage of it.
If those cretins in the White had done some planning, maybe this wouldnt have happened. This is disgraceful.
Just passed a Trump rally of about 12 people waving trump flags and holding trump signs.
Theyre supporting trump in his win in the presidential election. I yelled out my car window, But he lost! The response was, No he didnt. You just watch. I told them they were silly. When will the cult accept reality? Maybe when trump does.
Tales from volunteering at my county's Democratic Party office.
1. Guy calls the police because his 8x12 foot giant Biden/Harris sign in his front yard was ripped to shreds. After he tells his story to the dispatcher, she responds, You must be one of those people who want to defund the police. Bottom line, the police dont care one damn bit about his BH sign.
2. We have a big map of our semi-rural/ rural red county on a corkboard in the office. Every time anyone comes in to replace a stolen or defaced Democratic sign, we ask them to put a push pin on their location on the map. There are hundreds and hundreds of pins in the map. And these are just from the people that came into the office. Local Republicans are angry and scared, Im guessing.
3. I worked in the office in the months prior to the election in 2016. The contrast between then and now is quite remarkable. The volume of people coming into the office now for Democratic signs, flags, hats, pins, etc or just to talk to other Dems. is 4-5 times more than in 2016! Some days we can barely keep up with the volume of people. And the enthusiasm is very high. So take heart, fellow Dems! From my perspective, were looking pretty good! (But I know it aint over till its over, so not counting the chickens just yet) Im cautiously optimistic.
What do you think about calling attention to people who don't wear masks in stores?
Should we be calling them out, or asking them kindly if they could put a mask on, or ignoring them? What do you do?
I have one word for Kamala: Bravissima!
